In-situ Sub-micrometer Surface Flow Velocity Measurment

We have measured the flow velocity at a sub-micrometer distance from a flow channel wall by tracing the refractive index boundary of two consecutively flowed liquids. Using the surface plasmon resonance method to measure the surface proximity refractive index, we were able to measure the velocity without using additional tracer materials. This velocimetry can be performed while simultaneously m...

Surface Hardness Measurment and Microstructural Characterisation of Steel by X-Ray Diffraction Profile Analysis

An X-ray diffraction line will broaden considerably when steels change into martensitic structure on quenching. The results presented in this paper show that X-ray diffraction technique can be employed for a rapid and nondestructive measurement of hardness of hardened steel. Measurement on various quenched and tempered steels showed that the breadth of its diffraction peak increased with increa...

Peanut Shell-Derived Carbon Solid Acid with Large Surface Area and Its Application for the Catalytic Hydrolysis of Cyclohexyl Acetate

A carbon solid acid with large surface area (CSALA) was prepared by partial carbonization of H₃PO₄ pre-treated peanut shells followed by sulfonation with concentrated H₂SO₄. The structure and acidity of CSALA were characterized by N₂ adsorption-desorption, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), 13C cross polarization (CP)/magic angle spinning (MAS) nuclear magnetic ...

Preparation of High Surface Area ZrO2 Nanoparticles

In comparison to the previous researches, ZrO2 nanoparticles with higher surface area (85 m2/g) have been synthesized in this research. The as-prepared ZrO2 nanoparticles by co-precipitation method were characterized with X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The surface area of the s...

Gibbs’ Phenomenon and Surface Area

If a function f is of bounded variation on TN (N ≥ 1) and {φn} is a positive approximate identity, we prove that the area of the graph of f ∗φn converges from below to the relaxed area of the graph of f . Moreover we give asymptotic estimates for the area of the graph of the square partial sums of multiple Fourier series of functions with suitable discontinuities.
